I'm going to keep this post a bit on the short side because I just realized that I have completely forgotten my plan to write a birthday story for J. His birthday isn't here yet, but we're going to have his party with the family tomorrow and I wanted it done for the big party. We're also headed out tomorrow morning early to go see a train display with my folks. With Dad's cancer having returned and the radiation treatments likely to begin within a couple of weeks we wanted to seize the moment as it were.
I actually like Barbara Brown Taylor's opening chapter here quite a bit because it's a good reminder for me. I, like
Frank Schaeffer
, am often guilty of looking for the next best thing - that one thing that will cure what ails you.. The thing of it is, there isn't any such thing out there. As Taylor puts it (pg 6) - "The only More out there was more of the same. That, at least is how it looked to those of us who had forgotten that the whole world is the House of God."
Here's to remembering that that often what you're looking for is right in front of you...where you least expect it.
